#YoursTruly03: OLD PLAYLIST

I love music. I think that is an interesting fact about me because no day passes without music being a major part of my 24 hours. I have a thing for lyrics and beats too. Once it blesses, edifies and inspires me, there’s a playlist for it.

Some days ago, my entire last added playlist rearranged itself. I was like “who sent this one message” at the beginning because, my newly downloaded songs were lost in the crowd of my very long list. But, I realized that some of the songs I was seeing were my jams back in the day.  It’s a cycle. The least played song on your playlist was once the song on repeat and there was a time when that song resonated with your entire being.

Infact some songs reminded me of some challenges I had passed through at a particular phase of my life. What about the ones that were always on repeat during study times…you knowwwww! It really made me nostalgic and as always, I learnt something.

There is always going to be a “next”. Don’t always be in a hurry to forget about your journey. We are all heading to a destination and so, once we alight at certain bus stops, we sometimes forget HOW we got there in the first place and become overly sensitive about how to hop on the next bus.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re not to dwell on our past and allow it clog our sense of achievement and purpose. But, even as we fuel our drive and passion to do more, achieve more and be more, do not be oblivious of the journey and focus only on the destination. Focus on the journey AND the destination.

So, check out some of your old jams and let them remind you of your journey and how you got to where you are and as you do so, let it inspire you to keep moving. Not because you have to, but because, that is why you started the journey in the first place.
Remember to drop one of those jams in the comments and share how it inspired your journey.

Yours Truly.

  1. I don't really listen to music everytime but Reckless love by Cory Asbury is an old jam for me. It reminds me of days I wanted to give up on God and myself but the song brought me back into the spotlight of God's love again.

  2. So true. I agree with you.

We have to consciously let ourselves remember (even if it's through our old playlists) the mountains we once climbed, as well the valleys we had to walk through, and eventually BREATHE knowing that THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

  3. I love this. I love music. Especially old jams and I know how excited I get when I hear a song I loved to sing back in the day.
One of the music I know I'm probably never gonna stop listening to....no matter how old it keeps getting is Hero by Jubilee worship.
That song has been a good source of comfort to me....its a constant reminder that God is my Hero.
