KOVEED-ONE-NINE?
As Jacob and Dolan worked in the kitchen, they could hear the sound of the television in the background and their neighbours discussing outside their flat. “It’s time for the news, I’ll join you soon dear.” Jacob said, folding the napkins in the kitchen. “Alright, I need to arrange all these” Dolan replied, smiling and arranging the packs of orange juice in the fridge.
They had been married for two years. Well, you could say two beautiful years. Jacob, despite his busy schedule was always supportive, helping her out in the kitchen and assisting her with her own business. Dolan laughed as she remembered the day he almost burnt the house down while frying plantain. Chef Jacob indeed.
“Ha!” Jacob shouted. “What’s all these now?” Jacob said, lifting his hands in the air. “What’s that?” Dolan asked, rushing to the living room with a pack of orange juice in her hands. She wondered what the newscaster had said that made Jacob agitated.
“My dear, we’ve been asked to social distance ourselves from people. There is a virus affecting the entire world and it’s a no respecter of persons. It can easily spread and no cure has been found. This is serious o.” Jacob said shaking his head. “It’s like the whole world is on a lock-down.” He added.
Frightened, Dolan sat down and listened to the rest of the news. “Wow, look at those numbers, many people are dying. This is so sad. She said.
“Well, let’s just keep hoping things get better. We have to continue to keep our environment clean. We have to wash our hands consistently and like it was announced on the news, stay safe. Ultimately, we need to pray for God’s intervention. There is nothing God cannot do, I believe in that. Don’t panic Dee.” Jacob said, trying to comfort Dolan.
Some persons call it Corona virus, some say ‘covid-nineteen’, others say, ‘covid-one-nine’ some even say ‘koro’. Whichever way you choose to identify the virus, never lose sight of the fact that it is a deadly one that has claimed many lives. Don’t stop at being concerned, take active steps to ensure your environment is clean at all times. Wash your hands with soap or use a sanitizer where you do not have soap around.
Ultimately, pray. Yes, I said it. Pray. As much as you follow the safety guidelines given by health organizations and the government, don’t forget to pray too. God is still in control of the world and He is able to handle this pandemic or should I say ‘koro’.
Stay safe!

At this period, precautions should be taken keenly and not to live in fear because this phrase is going to pass soon.
